Heat Pump Services in Grand Rapids and West Michigan
More West Michigan homeowners are asking about heat pumps, and it's easy to see why. A single system that handles both heating and cooling can be a genuinely efficient way to stay comfortable year round. Prime Comfort Heating & Cooling installs, repairs, and maintains heat pumps for homes throughout Grand Rapids and the surrounding area, and we'll give you an honest read on whether one makes sense for your house before you commit to anything.
Our Heat Pump Services
Heat Pump Installation
Not every home is a perfect fit for a heat pump, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than sell you a system that's going to disappoint you in January. If a heat pump is the right call, we'll size it to your home's actual load and pair it with the right backup heat, gas or electric, for the days when it's too cold for a heat pump to carry the load efficiently on its own. We install Navien and Goodman conventional heat pumps along with Fujitsu and Hisense mini-split systems.
Heat Pump Repair
If your heat pump isn't heating or cooling like it used to, it's cycling on and off more than it should, the outdoor unit is icing over, or your backup heat seems to run constantly, our team will diagnose the real problem before recommending a fix rather than swapping parts and hoping one of them was the issue.
Heat Pump Maintenance
A heat pump heats your home in winter and cools it in summer, so it works harder than a furnace or AC alone. That's why we recommend a tune-up twice a year, in spring and fall. We check the refrigerant charge, clean the outdoor coils, test the defrost controls and reversing valve, tighten electrical connections and confirm good airflow, so your system is ready before the season changes. In a Michigan winter, a heat pump that defrosts properly and runs at full capacity makes a real difference in comfort and in your energy bill. We maintain all makes and models, and the Prime Protection Plan includes two tune-ups a year.
What is dual fuel?
A dual fuel system pairs an electric heat pump with a gas furnace and lets each one do what it does best. In mild weather, the heat pump heats your home efficiently and cools it in summer. When temperatures drop and the heat pump starts working too hard, your thermostat switches to the furnace automatically.
That switchover point is set for your home, your equipment and your utility rates, so you're always using whichever fuel costs less to run. In Michigan, that means the heat pump covers spring, fall and milder winter days, and the furnace handles the deep cold. You get lower heating bills than with a furnace alone - especially if you burn LP gas, steady comfort on the coldest nights, and a backup heat source if either system needs service.
If you already have a gas furnace and your AC is due for replacement, a heat pump is often a natural upgrade. Ask us whether dual fuel makes sense for your home.
