Mobile & Manufactured Home Furnace and AC Service in Grand Rapids

If you live in a manufactured home, you already know how hard it can be to find an HVAC company that will take your call, let alone one that knows your equipment. Some companies won't work on mobile home systems at all. Others will, but charge a premium just because of the kind of home you live in.

Prime Comfort Heating & Cooling does things differently. We repair, replace, and maintain furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps in mobile and manufactured homes throughout Grand Rapids and West Michigan, with the same honest diagnostics, fair pricing, and respect we bring to every home we work in.

Manufactured Homes Need the Right Equipment

A manufactured home isn't a smaller version of a site-built house, and its heating and cooling system isn't either. Manufactured home furnaces are built and approved specifically for manufactured housing. They're usually downflow units that pull combustion air from outside and vent directly through the roof, keeping the burn sealed off from your living space.

That's why a standard residential furnace can't simply be swapped in. It isn't approved for manufactured housing, and installing one can create safety problems and code issues. We only install equipment approved for manufactured homes, and we size it to your home, not by guessing. We install Coleman furnaces and Goodman air conditioners.

Mobile Home Furnace Repair & Replacement

We work on all the common manufactured home furnace brands, including Intertherm, Miller, and Coleman. Call us if you notice:

  • No heat, or a furnace that lights and then shuts off

  • Weak airflow from the floor registers

  • Strange noises, odors, or a burner that won't stay lit

  • A furnace that's 20+ years old and needing repair after repair

We'll find the actual problem and explain it in plain language. If a repair makes sense, we'll fix it. If your furnace is at the end of its life, we'll show you why and help you choose a manufactured-home–approved replacement that fits your home and budget.

If you smell gas or your carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get everyone out and call your gas utility or 911 first. Then call us.

Mobile Home AC & Heat Pump Service

Mobile home furnaces are downflow, and in most of them the air conditioning coil sits in a cabinet built into the bottom of the furnace. Air moves down through the coil and into the ducts under the floor. Because the furnace and AC share the same cabinet, blower, and ductwork, an AC problem can actually be a furnace problem, and the other way around. We look at the whole system, not just the outdoor unit.

We repair, maintain, and replace:

  • Central air conditioners added to manufactured home furnaces

  • Heat pumps, which can heat and cool efficiently in one system

  • Packaged units that sit outside the home

Thinking about adding central air to a home that doesn't have it? We'll check whether your furnace and ducts can support it and give you a straight answer.

Replacing Your Furnace? Consider the AC at the Same Time

Since the AC coil lives inside the furnace cabinet, replacing only the furnace means your existing coil has to come out and go back in. We pump the refrigerant down into the outdoor unit, move the coil into the new furnace, install a new filter drier, and evacuate the system before it can run again. That work typically adds about $1,000 to a furnace replacement.

If your air conditioner is getting older, replacing both at once is often the smarter move. You avoid paying for that transfer and get a furnace and AC designed to work together. We'll lay out both options so you can decide what makes sense for your home.

Ductwork: The Part Most Companies Skip

In a manufactured home, the ductwork runs through the underbelly, the insulated space beneath the floor. In a double-wide, a crossover duct connects the two halves of the home. Over time these ducts can come apart, get crushed, or be damaged by rodents or moisture, and the result is cold rooms, high energy bills, and a furnace that works much harder than it should.

A brand-new furnace won't fix a disconnected crossover duct. When we're diagnosing comfort problems, we check the ductwork too, so you're not paying to replace equipment when the real problem is under the floor.

When to Schedule Maintenance?

Most homeowners in our area schedule a cooling tune-up in the spring and a heating tune-up in the fall. If it's been over a year since your last one, or you can't remember the last time your system was serviced, now's a good time.

Make Maintenance Part of the Plan

Our Prime Protection Plan includes an AC tune-up in the spring and a furnace tune-up in the fall, 15% off repairs with no diagnostic fee when you move forward with the repair, and priority scheduling, starting at $19.99/month. We'll reach out when your tune-up is due, so maintenance doesn't slip through the cracks.
